SHARING THE TRUTH

Reconciliation is a verb

Reconciliation is not a noun, it is an action and something we do.  We are all treaty people: the Indian Act is still the law across the country.  I was born on Treaty 6 territory.  My grand-parents fled war in Ukraine and chose Canada because they were promised "free land," which was a lie: the Canadian government used force before my ancestors arrived to take control of the lands kept pristine for countless generations.  As a settler experiencing unearned privileges, I can lend my voice to share the stories of survival from the Indigenous Peoples.

Please see below my brief video from October 2023 about the Qikiqtani Truth Commission and the qimmiit:

I am not a licensed therapist or counsellor. I do not provide medical or clinical advice.  If you have questions about your health, kindly consult your physician or mental health professional.  If you need to speak with a nurse, call 811.  If you need crisis support, call the Distress Centre at 403-266-4357.  If it is an emergency,  call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

I am grateful to honour the Indigenous Peoples in Treaty 7 territory: the Blackfoot confederacy: (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani); the Îyâxe Nakoda (Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley) and Tsuut’ina nations; as well as the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.  Their stewardship kept this land pristine for countless generations.  We are all treaty people.  Reconciliation is an ongoing process of healing and honouring those who came before us and what they endured.  Learn about my own reconciliation projects here.
